Johnny Gleeson - Profile
Hailing originally from the Australian countryside, Johnny discovered his love for music at an early age. This son of a jazz/dance pianist, stumbled apon the world of Djing in 1989 and never looked back. Early plans to pursue production were temporarily put on standby after his audio studies to cater for a burgeoning and to be much talked about, DJ career.
Johnnys energy infects everything he touches - his dj sets, his remixes and of course his productions. His selection as a Pacha resident (Ibiza), and member of the Pacha allstars, an elite remixing outfit, hand chosen by the superclub for their outstanding work, is testament to the force behind this mans success.
January 2007, started off with Johnny being commisioned to produce an album for one of China's favourite DJ's, Chozie, for local label PPC in Beijing,a city which has welcomed Johnny as a regular guest to the elite ranks of the DJ circuit there for the last seven years.
"Right Before My Eyes" was undoubtably his biggest track to date under the guise of Southside Hustlers and held a firm position at number five in the charts as well as earning essential new tune and four consecutive weeks of airplay from Pete Tong on his "Essential Selection " Radio1 program. This was however not the only production to taste success as Banta Boom was also featured as essential new tune previously, and "Electric Pillowcase" became the top earner for Pacha's "Black label" , featuring on 12 compilations worldwide, and the cover of DJ magazine (July 07).
His early 2006 residency for Defected (Sydney), meant he didnt rest on his laurels, travelling back to Pacha ibiza for a summer residency in July 2006 and then returning to Australia in August 2006 for a national Hed Kandi Tour showing hes learnt a thing or two about turning the heat up and making the dance floor sweat the world over. Having already set the standard for his work, Johnny was asked to produce for Superfighter, a new and innovative sports entertainment event showcasing the talents of 8 elite international heavyweight boxers in an elimination, gladiatorial event in march 2007 that exposed to massive international pay TV audiences, and followed up with a remix for "Shakira" on Pacha records mid August this year.
As well as remixing for three local Australian artists, Johnny has managed to maintain his momentum and has signed two new tracks with the Ibizan giants Pacha. On the Dji'ing front over the last couple of years, Johnny has been playing week in and week out around the globe from Beijing to Miami, London to Ibiza, Italy to Taiwan, to name a few and has chosen to spend the 2007 Australian summer in Sydney as the festival circuit there right now is proving to be lucrative for him indeed.
Not being one to rest, Johnny has also been maintaining one of Sydney's most respected house nights "Digital" at Australian 2007 club of the year "Favela" for the last year and has just launched an after hours weekly event "Freekshow" which broke 2007 records for the club before the promotions began!
Undeniably, one of Australia's hottest DJ/producer exports, with a reputation for his unforgettable sets, far reaching, influential sound and trademark cutting edge style, Johnny is one of Australia’s hottest DJs with a huge following in his home town. He has held residencies at every major club in Sydney since 95 and is a standout everywhere he plays across Australia.
Johnny is affectionately known as "The Godfather" by local up and comers and continues to be a crowd favourite as fame has not tarnished this man's giving and genuine personality. Johnny enjoys the challenge of producing and playing to all walks of people and all genres of music and is known for his outstanding variety and enthusiasm. From Main Room, tribal, NY based house, and progressive house, to tech house,minimal and electro, to jazzy, balaeric and deep funky house, a style that has earned him quite a reputation on the Pacha terrace, Johnny has learned to cater for everybodies tastes and brings a truly international vibe to the table wherever he plays.
His strong association with Pacha has recently seen Johnny be in the enviable position of being offered a spot on Pacha Radio. The station which broadcasts to 6 million listeners worldwide is available via digital on the Galaxy Network. In Between all of this, Johnny shows no signs of slowing down and has already established 2007 to be a fine launching pad for a career that is set to blow up in 2008.
